Visiting Gibraltar Public School and New Kru Town Center
Gibraltar Public School: A Beacon of Hope for Children in Monrovia, Liberia
On a research trip, Christian Krämer visited a school and a social center in the slums of Monrovia. In these impoverished areas of Liberia’s capital, the demand for proper school facilities is immense, with only about 20% of children having access to education. The school building was in a deplorable state and urgently requires renovation. Despite these challenges, the joy and eagerness to learn among the children and the dedication of their teachers left a profound impression on the visitor. Help is desperately needed here!

SUPPORT FOR TRAUMATIZED YOUTH AT THE NEW KRU TOWN RESOURCE CENTER
At the UNICEF-operated New Kru Town Resource Center, we encountered deeply traumatized young people aged 14 to 20 who had been forced into prostitution due to poverty. Now, they receive psychological support and vocational training at this facility. The focus here is on ensuring the center’s sustainability and expanding its resources to better serve the community.
We were deeply moved by the dedication of the educators and trainers, as well as the hope the young people hold for an improved future. UNICEF representatives on site appealed to us for further support from Germany for this vital project.
